September 10th = BAD release date
« on: August 14, 2010, 07:06:25 PM »
3 days after Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep comes out? Seriously?

I mean, I'm very eager to play me some Recettear, but let's face it, Kingdom Hearts sells millions and will inevitably distract masses of JRPG fans everywhere. Very, very bad timing.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the Recettear demo and can't wait to play the full game (NAO plz? XD) but I was hoping it'd come out before the end of the month, while gaming is still in its summer slump. Once August 31st rolls around, we'll have Metroid: Other M, and then on to KH: BBS on Sept. 7 (or the 10th by the latest if you're in Europe). @.@

And let's face it, KH: BBS is already the second most popular PSP board AND FAQ page on GameFAQs, second only to Persona 3 Portable, and it's not even out yet.

Conclusion: I really hope sales don't take a hit from this. Also, I wanted to play Recettear sooner! T_T

I'm out of the loop in the gaming world, so I had no idea about this...it would be cool for CF to move the date up, but I have a feeling it's set where it is.  All of us Recettearists (we need a fun fan name!) will just have to promote it that much more!

And welcome to the forum!

That's the beauty of a digital release of a niche game. No need to worry about getting it right away cause Atlus or Xseed or whoever only printed like 10,000 copies for the whole country.

Well, we're trying to push it out sooner, but to be quite honest, I don't think it matters.

At all.

The audience for Recettear has never been exclusively super-hardcore JRPG types, because it's not a console game. It's a wide-appeal PC game designed to be enjoyed by people of all styles and tastes. For the majority (not all) of the kind of people who a Kingdom Hearts game is The Big Deal, Recettear is probably too simple, straightforward, and plain (visually and gameplay-wise) to be that appealing, especially as it's not on a console.

Moreover, I'm confident there will be people discovering, talking about, and enjoying Recettear for a while after it's release- these people have plenty of time to find us and pick up a copy. As Hades points out, we don't have limited sales copies, we don't pay to have our stock out there- there's no drive to sell as many copies as soon as possible, there's a drive to sell as many copies as we can period.

Between these two, I honestly don't think these two launches are all that incompatible.

Yeah, I have no intention of playing KH, or any console game tbh, as we've previously discussed, I like finding small odd treasures of games on the internet, rather than Massive Noob Shoot'em ups, or any other such Popular Games. ;-)

and Recettearists... You're either with us, or you're against us!

Yeah, you have a good point there. I know Atlus bumped up the release date of the DS SMT because it coincided with the release date of FFXIII. Not like I would ever buy a FF game over a SMT game, but it was still a wise move on their part.

But yes, I suppose with Recettear it WILL be available for all eternity, so long as someone is willing to host it.

BTW, both KH and Recettear are a big deal to me, so the two types of fans aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. ;) I just so happen to be the kind of person who stalks game news sites to find neat little niche games like these. I'll never let a gem of a game slip past me, no matter how obscure it is!

But alas, I would not object to you pushing the release date of Recettear up (as in sooner).  ::) I mean, I've been checking the site EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. since I played the demo for a release date, and I just about died inside when I saw September. Way too far away. T_T

Well if it were me in that position I'd probably get Recettear first because the price is likely to be fixed (unless one of the distributors has a sale on, but it seems rare and especially on a niche game like this) whereas the KH game is likely to come down in price soon after initial release. So I would get this game first and pick up KH later for cheaper. But then I generally don't pick up games upon release date anyway due to the high price tag unless theres some limited preorder bonus (though usually that backfires when they later make the "limited preorder item" widely available months later via DLC or something). Well except as mentioned above for something like a Nippon Ichi or Atlus game because they seem to disappear after a few weeks. I expect KH to be well stocked though everywhere for a long time to come.
Having said that I never got time to finish KH 1 and KH 2 is still sitting on my shelf unplayed due to lack of time. So I'm out of the KH loop.

I only play PC games, so I'd never even heard of this Kingdom Hearts thing.

To expand on what Robin said: there's no real "good" time to release the game. If we released it this past week, we'd be going up against Ys 7. A few weeks further back than that and we'd be up against the Starcraft II juggernaut (and we had to fight that in our demo release, no less, and frankly did better than I thought we would). If the demo gets pushed down further (very unlikely at this point btw), we'll be going up against Civilization V.

One of the perils of being "indie" is that there's always a bigger fish. You are always going to be fighting against studios and publishers with larger advertising budgets than you may ever have, and there is always the risk that you'll simply be overshadowed by someone else's release and you'll never really get noticed. We pretty much have to release when we can - if we try to play the "waiting game", we may never end up releasing a title.

And I'm pretty sure you don't want that to happen. :P

I typically have all the Kingdom Hearts games so far, but I play console games casually now and its not a big deal.  ;)

Fix'd.

Besides, I'd be quite happy to have it released right now, in whatever state it is, and then get fixes over time.

Or perhaps there should be a beta-testing program? Every good game needs beta testers, right? Riight?  :D

At this point, I'd pay quite a bit more than $20 to get it right now, beta or not.

Haven't wanted a game this badly in quite some time.

I'm just quivering in aticip-

ation.

I'm a JRPG fan and even own a PSP but I have 0 interest in this KH spinoff. I'll be buying Recettear day one though.

This is like saying 'September 10th really?  Halo: Reach is coming out this month' ect ect.  September and quite frankly October and November are big months in gaming as there are a crapton of games coming out.  That said there's not a crapton of quality fun 20 dollar games coming out.

Well we could keep spreading the word!

I'm sure we can topple over these disasters to be!

(Note: It's just a encouraging message, do not sue me for insulting your game.)
