Wow...I can't believe no one else found that before...

...

Why is common knowledge something no one found out? Pretty much every Dojin game I've played or seen had a separate config exe.

Gah...

Doesn't alt+Enter work too?  I'm not at home rightnow so I can't really check at the moment.

Don't forget, "common knowledge" is only "common knowledge" for some audiences. I get the feeling that Recettear will draw in a bigger crowd than the doujin crowd.

Exactly.  I've never played a doujin game before, so I didn't know how important that file was.

Yep. That's right. It's also why many comments on other sites (e.g. in the comments on JayIsGames where a lot of casual gamers are) have people confused over the keys as well. Supposedly ZXC etc. is common in Japanese doujin games. But aside from a couple small Japanese doujin fighter Flash games I don't think I have really played many 'doujin games'. I'd like to play more but I can't understand Japanese and whilst many don't require full knowledge of Japanese I enjoy understanding the story. I do have some Japanese rhythm games for DS though such as the Nodame Cantabile one just for the gameplay, sure would be more fun if I could understand what people are saying in it though.

I think this game could have a wide appeal. Even to casual gamers. Though the default keys would need to be changed and more info from the manual and regarding custom.exe put inside the tutorials to really draw that crowd in.
Its interesting quite a few people who tried the demo started their forum review on other sites with "I'm not much into anime but..." so it really does seem like there is some potential here. Personally I like anime, just saying it's already appealing to a wide spectrum.

They should consider changing it to "config.exe" or "runfirst.exe" if there's that many people missing that it's there. And have the installer launch into it instead of to the main game.

It wasn't a problem for me, since I've played plenty of old dos/win95 games where there was almost always a separate "setup" exe or bat or whatever.

It should be a first-time thing, at the very least - the first time you run the game, config.exe jumps in and lets you see/reconfigure the controls before you start. That said, I had the common sense to bring it up first and reconfig the game to use my gamepad. :3

Alternately, the game should provide a little splash panel every time you double-click the .exe: "Start Game", "Options", "Exit", that sort of thing. Like a disc-based game's Autorun menu.

DAMNEDGOD FINALLY. Sorry for the delay on this, guys.

But yeah, Impulse. Stardock, being sold alongside the greatest indie developers in the world etc. We're kind of sort of thrilled.

I know that the Impulse platform is a safe platform to buy on, so I'll be able to buy it!  ;D

And Impulse isn't that different to Steam, although it doesn't have Valve games.  ;)

And Congratulations!

Huzzah!  The promised day has arrived!

I know nothing about Impulse, but I'd be happy to try it out for Carpe Fulgur and Recettear's sake (oh, and the backbeat music to the announcement is amazing).

You'd have to convert from USD, Josh. Oceania will be basically paying US prices converted to your currency at time of purchase.

A quick bit of Googling suggests that 20 US dollars = 28.2726 New Zealand dollars.

Congratulations, CF. You guys are awesome. :D
