I am a strong Futurist, I hardly ever play games that take place before present time tbh. That being said, I view PC as the future of all gaming, Consoles will merge one day, as will almost all devices, just requires a few companies to die off first... Nintendo has a great start on that since they made the Wii... Damn them for making such great games though!

I'd post what consoles I have but that is Off-Topic, we are in the Recettear Sub-Fora at the moment. :P

Oh but I'm not a moderator.  ::)

I don't think console games will ever go away as long as there are people who are confused by their computers but still want to game. Plus, I don't like hauling my PC out to my living room to hook up to my TV or hauling a couch into my room to play my games from, but that may just be me :P

well... from the screenshots alone, I can tell that RF is a complete Knock-Off of Harvest Moon. The Farming techniques are beyond similar, though I expect the other elements to be much different (less pointless Recipe collecting, more pointless ass-kicking). I'll try it someday, I don't do Console Games in general, so I'll see when I can get around to trying it. Looks fun though!

It's actually a spin-off of the Harvest moon series. If you want, you could use a DS emulator to play it.

Activision is pushing for a PC based console that you could hook up to your TV. I'm very much for this (though I'm not a big fan of Activision).

Well, there's always the Phantom...Maybe it was before it's time, but they had some pretty bad press. I don't think it's a bad idea,, in fact most consoles are essentially PCs with very specific firmware. Consoles main benefit beside their ease of use is that the software can be efficiently developed around the components to run games like a computer that may cost hundreds of dollars more. I doubt we'd ever see anything like a fully customizable console or a console that runs a mainstream PC OS just because that would deviate from the console demographic.

Also, yes, Activision is a good company to love to hate. They do nothing but find ways to destroy their most popular and profitable franchises.

no hauling required... I have a TV in my room, and a bed, and a chair, and a stack of PCs. My Living Room TV has HDMI, and VGA Input, and my Laptop has HDMI, and VGA as well. People who keep their PCs locked away in a corner of their house obviously aren't ready for such endeavors. :-D
I don't even use a Desktop anymore, havn't for like 3 years, they're so outdated and pathetic, I use Laptop always, even right now, sitting on my bed typing. And Yeah, Consoles literly are just Dumbed-Down PCs... but PCs aren't really that confusing, most of people confused by PCs will be dead in the next 20-30 years, and then...a new era shall begin.

I took some computer classes in High School...trust me, there's a new generation of PC illiterates out there. I really wish I could keep a good computer in my living room. I have a nice big screen with HDMI.

Should check out Atelier Annie: Alchemists of Sera Island on the DS, its pretty similar to Recettear. It has light rpg elements, turn-based instead of action; you run your own shop although less control of it, you can set other characters as shop clerks while you go out and collect materials for alchemy or do quests and such; and sort of like Recettear's weekly debt, you have to synthesize a certain item well enough and by a certain time to win prize money.

Just wanted to give out a shout out to the Y's series. I rediscovered them after looking for Recettear like games myself. I was even able to find my old copy of the PS2 game Ys 7. Great series, just none of the store aspect.

There was an IT person at a school my teacher told me about who couldn't identify a stick of RAM.

Just FYI, Rune Factory isn't a Harvest Moon knock-off.

It's a Harvest Moon spinoff.

Actually, Ys Seven is for PSP, and it's not even out yet in the U.S.. ^_^;

You're thinking of Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim (which was originally a PC game!), though you can't be blamed for getting the number wrong: Konami cut it out of the title in the U.S. release of both the PS2 and PSP versions.

Personally, what I'm psyched for is Ys: The Oath in Felghana, a remake of Ys III using the Ys VI engine. It's been ported to PSP and is finally coming Stateside thanks to XSEED, which is also publishing Ys Seven and Ys I&II Chronicles in the U.S..

Anyway, yeah, the combat is very strongly reminiscent of the old Ys games: you rammed enemies rather than use an attack button, but hitting them at an angle - "flanking" them - allowed you to inflict damage without getting hit yourself. Since enemies usually attack along the cardinal directions, attacking from an angle here is similarly mandatory (unless you like getting killed repeatedly XD).
In the event of a firestorm, the salad bar will remain open.

Haha I knew that was wrong when I typed it but didn't want to fact check. I'm acutally going out and pre-ordering the psp game that comes in two weeks, i can't let my local gamestop not order a single copy just because no one pre-ordered.

I knew it was a spinoff, I still call it a Knock Off. It's just a cheap way of making a new game...

The cheap way of making a new game is making Harvest Moon every year like MMV did. Rune Factory and the less popular sci-fi spin off Innocent Life were attempts to innovate and freshen up the concept they ran into the ground. Of course that didn't stop them from continuing Harvest Moons every year and now Rune Factorys every year too...
