Ideas for a sequel/expansion?
« on: October 03, 2010, 10:38:02 AM »
Besides the obligatory "New dungeons, new items, new adventurers", do you guys have any ideas that you think would be cool to see in a future sequel/expansion?

Here's a few I've come up with:

1) An endless dungeon. It kind of feels like, by the time you get all of the best equipment for even one of your characters, they don't really need it anymore. An endless dungeon would just be a dungeon where the monster levels (and chest item quality, and item drop rates, and so on) increase as you delve deeper. The bosses would just be random three-boss-rooms or gauntlets.

2) The ability to take quests in the pub. This could be a merchant level related thing, but at some point, the adventurers might start wanting to take on quests and will ask recette to help out. Something like "Hey recette, I took a quest to ____ within 3 days. The reward is ____. Will you help me?". The reward could be something that the adventurer needs, or some rare treasure that they will sell to you at a discount, or something along those lines. The quests would probably just be to kill a certain boss, or to return with an item from a particular dungeon or something like that. The items/monsters/whatever would be spawned whenever you took the character into the appropriate dungeon. The idea behind this would to encourage you to use different adventurers and would give them access to much better gear earlier on in the game.

3) An adventurer inventory. It's so annoying when you've finally gotten an adventurer to buy the best equipment for them, and then they go and toss it out for something that's inferior in it's main stat, but has better secondary stats. An adventurer inventory would be something that contained all of the items they've collected, and you could suggest items for them to use prior to entering the dungeon. This could also be a merchant level ability.

Thoughts?

Adventurers' inventory sound good. But the two ideas are NOT. They make Reccettear too similiar to other generic fantasy RPG and MMO. If implemented without specific features the game will be blah.

The draws of Recettear is the parody of item shopping feature of MMORPGs. the sequel should be the parody of another feature as well.

Can't think of an expansion, only of enhancements of the existing game, like adjusting enemy drops in CN to the drops in all other dungeons (where are my furballs? Why don't I get any Natural Heaters?), perhaps making a few more different dungeon designs or introducing a music player to play own music during dungeoneering.

Perhaps "Rescue your father" feature?

Through an especially harsh dungeon you get your father back at the end. Unfornately he still lost a lot of money each week that you have to pay (gambling? bad risky investment? take a high interest loan just for buying esp highpriced items from Euria? Your money woes just keep on going.

Or he love dungeons and keep on getting lost on them, ala Nagi. Though it's limited due to the number of dungeons.

I'd like to see:
  • Adventurers selling (multiple) items they may have come across in dungeons (at several times their worth)
  • Wandering salesmen selling rare items at high prices
  • Town festivities that require Recettear to gather x amount of certain food/ingredient/item combinations

I like the endless dungeon idea, as well as the quests, to deepen the rpg aspect of the game.

Yeah, there should be option to buy dungeon-only ingredients. 20 times its original price is no problem. IT's only  money, after all.

I mean, we return to town with a backpack full of stuffs, so it mean the other adventurers should have the same harvest half of the time, right? Why cant we buy that?

To be sure, make them buyable mean the game become even more easier.

The quests wouldn't really make the game any more or less MMORPG/CRPG than the game already is, if they do like how I suggested. The whole idea is that the adventurer would come to you after taking the quest, rather than you coming to the adventurer. I just mentioned the pub since that was in one of the story scenes.

I actually really like this idea, the more I think about it. Having an adventurer say "Hey, so and so wants me to go and clear out 10 snow bunnies in jade way within 2 days. The reward is 5 red crystals. Can you help?". Then they'd let you use them for free, and if you failed to complete the quest within the time limit, they'd get all pissed at you and start charging you more to go into the dungeons or something.

That sounds like a classic MMORPG. Sorry, but fact is a stubborn thing.

Moreover, we are a shopkeeper, not an idling adventurer. We only go dungeoncrawling when it suit OUR purpose. And that kind of quest make us drop everything (normal sale, orders coming  in...) to go away from town? That's not the kind of behaviour you expect from a merchant.

I think we are both merchants and adventures. If you add more rpg features (they're not mmorpg features), you can flesh out the rpg aspect more. I'd like it.

But those that prefer the merchant side don't have to play the adventurer.

Recette and Tear is a preteen girl and a fairy. Whatever make you think they are adventurers?

Anyway, the townfolks could come up with requests for more exotic things. Like the guild master ask for weapon materials (air crystal, etc), the houswife ask for cooking ingredients...

Theres an easy way to do the "Adventuer" and "Merchant" thing at once.

Forgive if i borrow a game mechanic from another game but.
Atelier Iris 2.

Recette and Tear stay and do regular shop business and like when its time to do some adventuring. the "Camera" goes to an adventuerer. Recette is still doing her store thing at the "same time" the adventuerer is doing his/her thing.

With the whole "Freindship" thing going on, i could Charme/Arma and the rest going out to look for her father for her. Griff might take some convincing perhaps.

You just got my attention. Dual (or more) plotlines have always appealed to me greatly. Ever play Rudra's Secret Treasure? You most absolutely should.

The only problem is that this would conflict with the pre-established plot of Recettear. So your idea would be better placed into a (spiritual?) sequel with new characters whose stories can be written from scratch...

But I like.

I'm fine with that too ofcourse.
If you like dual-plotlines. I'd also suggest Mana Khemia 2 for you if you havent. Now that I think about it, Gust seems to like using dual plot-lines. The Ar Tonelico series does that a bit when it forces you to choose between girls.

You would have to mention the two series of Gust's that I've been able to procure funds to purchase yet.

Mana Khemia 2 and Ar tonelico 2 are still on my wishlist. Being poor sucks...

I miss having money...

I have at least played the first two. And they are both indeed good fun...

Do you realize how many games have preteen girls and fairies as adventurers?
