Btw is anyone with the crash not on Windows 7? Is anyone on XP?
I'm on XP. Some others have listed 7 I believe.

So today I finally got around to messing with Processor Affinity and I'm cautiously optimistic that it's fixed the problem. I'm going to hold off on calling it a "solution" because I'd like to hear if others have tried this before and what their results were.

I'm on an i7 920 (Bloomfield) with Hyperthreading on. By locking Fortune Summoners to CPU 0 I was able to get through the entire first day. I even spent about 5 minutes just going in and out of doors at the school, where I would always experience the crash before.

I'll play a bit more today and see if I experience any crashes again. If not, awesome.

I have played around with affinity settings, but I get transition crashes no matter which core is in use.
I usually can play around 5min before crashes happen, so it's not really at playable state.
Also tried different GPU drivers and tried to play it with IGP, but it didn't matter.

I tried setting single core affinity on my 955 but that didn't help. Only solution for me is to launch with only one monitor enabled still. Also you might want to turn off that hyperthreading while gaming. most games can't take advantage of it, especially not ones like this.

Well it's been nearly 2 weeks and I'm still unable to play the game to the second save point due to the transition crash.  Is there any update?  Anybody been able to fix their problem?  Should I just give up and try to get my money back?

To recap...
Crashing on screen transitions.

Windows 7 64 bit
Intel Core i7 970 @ 3.20 GHz.  Not overclocked
6 GB of ram
Creative SB XFi
Geforce GTX 260
Latest drivers and all that jazz

Well, I just installed FS on my new build, played for over two hours and no problems there, either. I'll list all my specs for both builds just incase it helps narrow things down.

Old Build:
Win XP Pro SP3
Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.8GHz
Sapphire Radeon HD 3650
Foxconn mobo (would have to look up the exact model)
2x512MB RAM
WD 320GB HDD
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi
Dual monitor setup, non-Eyefinity compliant (very rarely I would get the dual monitor lag bug but only like 1 out of 5 times playing)
Logitech Rumblepad 2

New Build:
Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i5-2500k @ 3.3Ghz
XFX Radeon HD 6870
ASUS P8Z68-V/Gen3
2x4GB G.Skill DDR3 1600
Crucial M4 64GB SSD
WD Caviar Blue 1TB HDD
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi
Dual monitor setup, Eyefinity compliant but not enabled (no lag bug yet but I only played the one session)
Logitech Rumblepad 2

Hey, I'm getting crashes too.

Here's my DXDIAG:

I'm still optimistically waiting on a fix for this.

Hmmm, I'm curious...

See, my old hard drive - a Seagate Momentus 7200RPM 500GB - ended up failing on me, forcing me to return back to a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro SP1 on a 120GB 5400RPM WD Scorpio.

On the Seagate: I kept on crashing before I got to the cave, period.
On the WD: I finally made it all the way to the second save point trying to speed run from the beginning of the game on a fresh install.

Windowed/Medium settings on both counts. Barely was able to save before I alt-tabbed to another window, came back to find all input frozen, so I just quit there. Gonna go and do further testing tonight after I wrap up some classwork.

I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but I figure it might be worth mentioning...? Not that I expect people to test this, but...

edit So I played two more hours straight, no crashing, prologue finally clear. So, if anyone really, really wants to play Fortune Summoners, try making a partition and perform a clean install of Windows dedicated solely to Fortune Summoners? ;)

edit 2 There's no way this isn't stable after playing for three more hours. Having quite a bit of fun with the game. :)

This might not be worth testing but...
I've been able to bypass crashing when leaving the academy by spamming F1 before leaving.
Changing zones without spamming f1 beforehand as well as death(you cant spam F1 on the game over screen) will result in a crash.
Spamming F1 lets me proceed up till entering the cave where this method no longer works.

Since this is ridiculous, only bother trying this if you crash EXACTLY when trying to leave the academy. This method stops functioning when entering the cave.(or what looks like a cave)

If anyone else is able to reproduce this result then I will actually be more confused.

Edit:Spammed F1 for longer periods let me proceed through the cave.(Crashed after the cart cause I did not expect a load.)
Also noted is that the area before the academy, taking the top path and not kill the two snakes in the pit, results in the crash occurring when attempting to leave the classroom. instead of leaving the academy.

My dxdiag: http://pastebin.com/SA7aYWd4

In short:

Win 7 64-bit Ultimate
Motherboard: EX58-UD5
Video card: GTX 560 Ti (1GB)
CPU: i7 920
6 GB Tri-Channel DDR3 RAM
750w PSU (Coolermaster or something I think...  probably.)
I have 3 hard drives, and have tried running the game from all 3.  (And they're all separate.)

My issue is the game crashes on transitions.  I used to get severe slowdown, but that apparently was because I had the setting "VRAM Use" to "Use all."  I changed it to "Normal" and the game runs perfectly fine (Aside from the crashing...  Hehe.)    Graphics quality is high and the game is being ran in fullscreen mode.  Crashes happen at random transitions, no noticeable patterns.  Please tell me a fix is coming soon -- the game seems too much fun for me to be stuck forever!

So, today, Adobe released the Photoshop CS6 beta. I installed it. Now the transition crashes are back. (I hadn't installed anything else inbetween my last known working config and now.) Crashed on my way into the street where Sana's is.

Gonna try uninstalling PS6, see whether that fixes things.

edit On uninstall: Nope, no dice -- and it crashed faster! That's pretty weird. Gonna try restarting.
In the meantime, debug data:
Quote
Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:   APPCRASH
  Application Name:   sotes.exe
  Application Version:   1.2.0.0

Oh, and I'm on Day 10, I think? Post-moaning, to say it in a way that's not very spoileriffic.

edit On restart: No to this, too. Crashed just as fast as last time (two screens away from the school). Here's the debug data:

Interestingly enough, the fault modules seem to be different, yet seem to have the same version and timestamp. Huh...

edit On a system restore:

So turns out uninstalling PSCS6 also screwed up my instance of the Google Japanese IME, so I ended up doing a system restore. The system restore did this, so I figured I'd give FS another try. Turns out it was, once again, unsuccessful (crashed at, once again, two screens away from the school).

edit Uninstalling and reinstalling that VC++ redist mentioned by my System Restore also doesn't work (another StackHash fault). What the flip.

one last edit Here's my dxdiag stuff; x64 log starts halfway through (headers highlighted).

i think i found the reason for my crashes

yesterday i decided to give it another shot. i updated all drivers i could find, also several mainboard drivers (such as sata or network driver), i even updated the bios. The game still crashed.
i decided to install it on my laptop, plugged the laptop into my TV, hooked up my arcade stick and started playing: crash at school.

more or less out of desparation i gave it another shot on my desktop system, without the arcade stick, and the game didn't crash. i played through the whole prologue and a bit further, it took me 2 to 3 hours and i didn't have a crash, where as usually i'd crash even before i could finish exploring the school.

so just now i made a few more tests. result: if i plug in my arcade stick, whether XPadder is running or not, whether i use the stick or not the game crashes. ok, when not using xpadder and not using the arcade stick (which doesn't work without xpadder anyway, but more about that later), the game crashed only when i wante to close it (by choosing Exit from the games main menu) after about 5 minutes running around school.

the arcade stick i'm using is a Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE, or HRAP EX-SE in short, see here http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Real-Arcade-Pro-EX-SE/dp/B002FKYPU4 . i modded it by replacing the front plate and some buttons, but that shouldn't make a differnce. it's an xbox controller and windows recognizes it as such. but the game doesn't react to the stick at all, not even in the gamepad configuration. the controller works in windows setup.

i also have a joystick hooked up (Logitech Freedom 2.4), which the game DOES recognize as controller. i also tried to unplug it, and now the menu option to configure game controllers in the Fortune Summoners menu is disabled. I tried it once more with an unplugged joystick (maybe FS doesn't like multiple game controllers) and with XPadder (otherwise i can't use the stick), the game crashed again when properly closing it after a few minutes running around school.

So my cause for the crash seems to be the HRAP EX-SE. The cause for the crash might be connected to the reason why the game doesn't recognize it as a controller, even though it's an XBox controller (and works without problems on the XBox and in Windows itself)

If you need any more information about the stick or the drivers let me know what you need/want.

I don't know what has happened in 2 months that I have not tried to play this game, but now it suddenly works without any crashes. I haven't upgraded my rig so it's probably a software issue.. All I can think of that has happened that might have affected FS are new GPU drivers (I use currently nvidia's 296.10 drivers) other than that every thing is just like few months back.

I'm having a slightly different problem unfortunately. I'm not sure which topics the devs are watching so I've copy/pasted this from the topic I created on the subject. Hope somebody can help!

Have been playing for about half an hour and it's getting really annoying. Every 20-30 seconds the game will freeze up for a few seconds then resume.

I'm running
Intel i5 3.2GHZ
Win 7 x64
4GB ram
GeForce gt545 1GB

I'm only using one monitor (a 32 inch tv), could the resolution be a problem? I have it 1280x720 so I can see my icons and stuff from the sofa lol.

Have tried changing all the options like graphic quality and the VRAM but its always the same

Help please!

I noted a similar problem, In using Motionjoy to emulate a ps2 gamepad (really a ps3 dualshock controller) I actually started to have BSOD problems after about 5-10 mins of play. play the game with the keyboard and not a hint of a problem at all. I'm a little saddened as the game really does handle best for me with a gamepad but its not a huge issue and it seems to be happening with in situations where people are emulating their pads and joysticks.
