Gamepad options
« on: January 30, 2012, 04:21:08 PM »
So I'm using a 360 controller here. Is there some way to set the game to use the D-Pad for menus and movement instead of the analogue stick? I can't stand using the analogue stick for 2D games, and since you can use the right stick for hotkeys, I'd like to use the left stick for that as well. I've tried hitting disable in the analogue gamepad setup but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Agreed strongly. Why brag about having xinput support full analog/etc and not make the 360 controller (the pc gaming controller standard) analog work like it should???? I cannot get the analog to work like they say it does. Turn it on and nothing happens! This game was made for 2d analog control; so why isn't it working like they claim it should? Has anyone got the 360 controller analog to work at all ??? Who wants to play this game with some shi%%y sticks a 2d platformer?  Has anyone got it to work via options? I know its an old game but still they give the impression that the controls have full support via the FAQ. Can not get the analog to be detected.

Please release a patch giving support for 360 wired/wireless controllers proper analog control.

The d-pad works great for this game. I have a Logitech so mine works fine without any hackery but I hear you can use Xpadder to map the arrow keys to the d-pad for XBox controllers as a workaround.

Oops meant my analog works fine and the dpad (digital) isn't working; like the OP. (yes i got egg on my face ;-) Wish they'd release a patch for the dpad to work properly; can't play it with the stupid stick! Please release a patch where it gets recognized as such. Yes played with the options and it won't work. You claim full controller support yet the dpad on the industry standard pc controller (xbox360) isn't working as it should.

Sorry for the double post. Yeah Logitech I'm not surprised since they specifically mention it in the faq. Still no real excuse the xbox dpad isn't working correctly especially since it is a popular controller for pc gaming.

Xpadder works, just mirror the d-pad to the arrow keys.

Great solution (no offense). So using a external key mapper vs having a normal functioning controller support. They'll support a logitech controller fully vs. a standard xbox 360 pc controller.  Shouldn't have to use a clunky and fiddle around with external programs and settings to get dpad to work properly :P

Please patch this!

Actually, they don't support the Logitech any better than the XBox it's just that the Logitech gamepads have a Mode button that swaps the addressing for the d-pad and left stick so you can swap them back and forth at will. For situations like this it's very useful.

Full Xinput support. This means it’ll work with Xbox 360 controllers and all derivatives, including the Logitech F series, the Saitek Cyborg Evo (Xinput version), and PS3 controllers with MotionInJoy drivers. Triggers, the right stick, everything will be mappable.

Their words not mine, somehow my capcom games reads my xbox controller and adjusts accordingly. This game won't even allow the xbox dpad to be mapped. That statement implies full support Q: why doesn't this game when they make a point of clearly mentioning xbox controller support???

*shrug*, it's been working for me. Free program too.

Sure, I'd rather the game supported it natively but it works just as well and you're not losing any functionality (unless maybe you really wanted to bind something else to the left analog stick).

It does actually, the problem's just that you can't remap the movement keys so you can't bind them to the d-pad.

I guess I wouldn't be so pissed if they didn't make a big show of announcing how it has full controller support. They themselves make like it has full xinput support with full mapping blah-blah Fact is the xbox controller isn't some obscure controller, it doesn't have native support except for the analog sticks. Really wish they'd add proper digital (dpad) support as I'm sure most users would want it. The mapping doesn't work. It would even be 10x better if they made it like game for windows and made the support native (ie: capcom games and others that actually SEE what kind of controller it is and automap it accordingly with option to change. Please add a proper controller patch and stop pretending like this game has proper controller configuration. Hope the company actually listens and makes a patch for it

Umm, they do have 100% functioning xinput support, they just don't have movement rebinding support. If I wanted to use WASD to play this game I couldn't do that, either.

I'm not saying that's any better but it is a bit different, as in, they did not really lie at all.

Honestly though, i really don't see how it bothers people so when games don't support controllers. It's really so very easy to use xpadder or joy2key. Although again, FS supports controllers perfectly, it just doesn't support movement rebinding for some weird reason.

Well besides having to install a app, play with profiles, have it use up bg memory only to work in a clunky manner. I don't see the problem either. Sigh...of course they could just patch the thing since they did imply the game was xbox controller ready and could be remapped.
