WTF. This game is a Metroidvania game. What the hell did Lizsoft put in there (Or did they play a bad joke on you by sending you the japanese X3 manual ? ;) )

Well, if the manual has a lot of story information or char information I'm happy with that. I really enjoy reading such things.

The manual has a fair amount of information on basic gameplay elements, game flow elements, advice on how to play the game, a lot of adorable little art fluff bits, and then goes into much further detail, reiterating some of what was stated earlier and giving some more in-depth advice on sword combat action (showing some of the animations/ranges for the basic attacks, listing off a few example combos), gives incomplete lists of sword/magic lists, some advice on dungeoneering...

The manual is basically a packet of information on not just what buttons to play and the basic rules, but advice and in-depth guidance on manipulating the systems that's reasonably well cross-referenced and in-depth to the point of being more than a little redundant sometimes. It's a good manual (though that redundancy gets a little tedious at times.)

That sounds like an impressive piece of work. It's like these manuals from official, big games.
Hopefully it will be over with soon and the demo will come out though. Since weekend is coming up (again) and, well, it would be nice to have something interactive to occupy me and other ppl.

Hmm, manuals. I can still remember the Homeworld one... Or the Baldur's Gate manual, which was basically just a slightly modified version of the AD&D players handbook, if I remember right.
But now people can't even be bothered with them anymore. While I guess it's true that the role it played has been mostly taken over by in-game tutorials and the like, and there's this whole environmentally friendly thing going on, it's still a shame. It's gotten so bad, I actually saw someone post a comment on the Elder Scrolls forum a couple of days ago that praised the Skyrim manual for being so in-depth... I think a small part of me died that day. *sigh* Functional, sure. But just barely. (No offense to the Bethesda dev in here :p The game itself is a marvelous piece of art.)

Anyway, to not completely derail the tread: can't wait to try the demo. I'm generally absolutely horrible at these type of games, but it should make for an interesting change of pace.

I fondly recall the instruction manuals for those old D&D-derived computer games that contained enough detailed information about the under-the-hood game mechanics that you could essentially reconstruct the tabletop game from them. I had a friend who couldn't afford the "official" hardback gamebooks who basically ran his tabletop campaign out of the instruction manual from a garage-sale copy of Pools of Radiance.

(Or was it Curse of the Azure Bonds? One of those old SSI titles, anyway.)

I'm definitely looking forward to this.  Depending on when it's released, it'll be a day one purchase for me.  I love Tamura Yukari.  Nipaa~

I say depending on when it's released though, since I've got so much stuff to do D:

Also, needs more Kugimiya Rie D:  I'm sad that she isn't in many games.

You... do understand we're not releasing the version with the full professional voice acting, and instead we're leaving the original voice acting in, right?

Shh shh! It's not too late to convince him that it IS those girls, only they're disguising their voices REALLY WELL.

I think that's a no, but hey, someone else who likes Tamura Yukari's voice acting, so I can't fault him for that.

Kugimiya Rie has many talents.  Disguising her voice is not one of them. <_<

In my experience, manuals are not actually for the brand new player who has never played the game before. That is what the (hopefully skippable) in-game tutorials should be handling.

Manuals are, however, for the player who abandons the game halfway through, perhaps almost at the final endgame parts, due to some reason or another, and who now wishes to get back and actually finish the game this time without having to restart the game for the tutorials all over again.

I do like reading the story bits in the manuals, but for some reason a lot of games (both indie and big-studio) don't bother. It's kind of sad.

If you abandon your game somewhere in the middle, forgetting about controls should be the least of your worries.

Also, I fear that we won't see the demo before December.
People are still occupied with Skyrim and other recent releases, not to mention black friday is coming up and releasing full priced game somewhere close to that day would be a suicide.
This is incredibly frustrating since this game is SO BLOODY CLOSE, yet SO F***ING FAR AWAY.
Looks like we can't have Carpe Fulgur's game released w/o delay after delay near the release date, for one reason or another. No offense, but it feels like I'm a horse, and CF is waving a carrot on a stick in front of me (though, I believe it's not being done intentionally, just an unfortunate timeline of events in november).

I actually find forgotten controls to be a MUCH bigger issue.  I can USUALLY figure out what I was doing in most games I thought were good enough to actually pick up again.  Remembering the control scheme, especially in games where it's fairly complex (PC version of Assassin's Creed; I'm looking at you), has more than once forced me to start a new game and play the beginning long enough to go through control tutorials again.
