Problem with selling items to Griff
« on: October 29, 2011, 04:15:43 AM »
Hello everyone.

My problem appears when I sell a piece of equipment to Griff. He is wearing Summer Sandals at the moment and I sold Battle Boots to him, but he didn't change the sandals for the boots. Can anyone tell me why?

Adventurers not equipping items sold to them has been a persistent problem that EGS has tried to make go away over several patches, but never absolutely managed to make happen. I'd simply try again, unfortunately. Once EGS isn't snowed under with Territoire work, we are going to see if they can take one last look at this.

Speaking of which, is there any ETA for release? It's been going on for so bloody long it's not even funny anymore.
Well at least they're updating their blog (and they even updated character page, lovely) on weekly basis, but for crying out loud....

We haven't heard an ETA, no. They updated the main website recently and they'll be at Comiket 81 this winter, so I'm anticipating at least a new demo.

But yeah, Territoire is just about at the three-year mark for development; they've basically been working on it as long as they worked on the other three "original-content" games (Chantelise, Recettear and Mail Angel) combined, and it'll be longer if it doesn't drop at Comiket 81, which I suspect it might not. On the other hand, it's shaping up to be literally the most ambitious independent game project in Japan in, like, a decade, so I'm impossibly excited for it.

I admit I was wondering idly if it would be a good idea to grab what demos are available (from their site or whatnot) to try out the game, except that if the vocabulary gets beyond conversational Japanese I'd be lost, and would probably benefit from some kind of translation, and the train of thought ended up at a wild speculation on whether CF would actually translate the demo or provide an English-language FAQ for it.

I'm not actually expecting this to happen, if only because it seems to be more of a side-hobby thing than an actual professional contract, but the thought did give me about half a minute of amusement. I'm easily entertained like that.

I'm noticing a trend that when there's something stuck in longer developement, the shittier it gets in the end (examples: DNF, SPORE, Zambezi CPUs).
Or more like, people are overhyped because they think that something stuck in long developement will the the most epic stuff they'll enjoy, and then they're dissapointed.
I hope it won't be the case this time (averting that the Valve way would be excellent).

Then again TheSwordUser, Starcraft and Starcraft 2, Diablo 2, heck most blizzard games took forever to get released and most have been pretty good, (at least in my opinion).  There's precedent that sometimes a game can take forever to get into the market and still be good.

Diablo III on the other hand, is shaping to become a turd (maybe if there was no DRM there wouldn't be a problem, fixing other issues mentioned would be cool as well).
Also, note that I've said "(averting that the Valve way would be excellent)". Valve also took forever to make their own games and they stay epic to this very day.

And damnit, I derailed that thread pretty bad. Sorry about that.

I do hope that EGS can be persuaded to take another look at this issue, but on another note, maybe SpaceDrake or one of the other CF guys should start up a thread for Territoire discussion (Not discussion of CF translating it, since that is not 100% certain [Although it's pretty damn likely]), including a description of what the game is and translated information in the OP?

Just a thought, mind.

I had the same thought, although that thought kind of runs into another thought about how the Chantelise page on the CF site is still not updated.

The games you mentioned were all from big publisher. If an indie takes longer in developement, it isn't as bad as a big publisher game, since they don't  care about up to date graphics or marketing cost. DNF for example  had three complete engine switches. This time wasn't used to improve the game, jsut to update the graphics and unlike an already finished chapter/level all time on the previous engines is simply lost.

The same for Blizzard's game, they don't look that good but the additional developement time was spent on the game. (Okay in  Diablo III it was spent to add addtional ways to milk/annoy the custoemrs but well that another story )

I've always been under the impression that CF doesn't care about Chantelise... but I don't think a board for a game they aren't ACTUALLY at least working on now is a bit hasty. I do think that it's not too hasty to have an actual Fortune Summoners board... or at least page for... but like was said... there isn't even REALLY a Chantelise one, so...

Admittedly it's hard to run a whole company with like 2-3 people doing everything...

Oh, and uh... that Griff sure is hard to sell things to, jeez! *COUGH*

It's more that there was a ton of stuff flying around at the same time as Chantelise's original website launch (we had both FS and Project Four zipping around), so the CE website sort of got buried under a mountain of stuff. :-X We certainly wouldn't release a game we don't "care" about.

Also, our policy is generally to put up a board for a game once we have an actual, playable demo out for it, so that FS board (and page!) should be going up Very Soon.

I'm always amused that most of the times this issue comes up (or at least when I notice it), the item that Griff refuses to part with is his pair of Summer Sandals.

I had the weird vision of the Fortune Summoners page going up, time passing, the Project Four page going up, more time passing, and the Chantelise page is still not yet done...

I do figure that there's a lot to do and not many people to be doing it. Though it's not like Chantelise is your favorite child, either... *smirk*

You would think that he would hate those... they don't exactly scream "Griff".

Now "Demonic Boots of Everlasting Darkness" sounds a bit more Griff-like...
