First impressions of the full version
« on: September 10, 2010, 06:25:09 AM »
Let's collect some first impressions! If you haven't played it yet, you might want to not read this.

  • That art salesgirl is the most terrifying "customer" I have ever seen. She is an almost sure-fire Just-combo breaker. No, I don't want to buy that 50000pix treasure for 200-500% base price. >:(
  • With the right equipment, even I can play Charme! Well, maybe not, but I don't take as much damage, so it's all fine.
  • Shop extension is pretty cool.
  • Meeting people in the dungeon was a nice surprise.

I have none.  Because as of yet, despite not being "locked" anymore, Steam still isn't letting the full one install.

Goddamnit, Steam.

My first impression is that Steam shouldn't put countdowns if they're not going to stick to them.

Usually putting a "will be unlocked on <x>" means it's already finished and in the system, though.  Especially when valve is distributing, not developing.

Tell that to Alien Swarm and pretty much every game I've ever preordered on Steam.

After my pre-purchases of Fallout 3 and Mass Effect 2, I'm used to Steam not really having a precise time when they release stuff. I usually check back after an hour or so from the "official" time.

Also, wow, these forums exploded.

EDIT TO ADD:

... WAV format? Really?

Well, I suppose it's one format everyone can play.

  • I like the background music.
  • My last save was actually Day 7. Caillou appearing in my shop on Day 8 has me tempted to start over from the beginning and see if he'll show up earlier/I can satisfy him earlier.

Oh man.  I finally ran through a meager first week just so that I could continue playing the game.

So glad I did.  Laughed heartily.  Definitely worth every cent.

Your standard .MP3s are impossible to use in games if you want proper looping because of the way the codec is handled.

There is always a slight pause at the beginning and end of .MP3s so if looping is important (which is the case here) then WAV or OGG are your only real choices in game design beyond something proprietary.

Yeah, it was mostly because I remembered SpaceDrake saying that the codec on the full version was "more ridiculous in terms of compression" than the WMA in the demo, so I expected something outre like VQF or something.

I think WAV definitely qualifies as "more ridiculous [than WMA] in terms of compression". ;)
