So now that you're on Steam, Steamworks?
« on: September 01, 2010, 08:05:53 PM »
Any plans for Steamworks integration, steam cloud, leaderboards, achievements?

Because you know, the game obviously isn't addicting enough with people playing the demo over and over again.

Don't know the nuts and bolts of how this stuff works, but I guess it's probably something you'd need to work with EGS to implement?

Discussed on the Steam forums.

Steam achievements have been discussed, actually! (Especially since Introversion recently came clean about how adding achievements to Defcon and thus getting a Steam promotion gave them a year's worth of operating capital.)

However, such plans realistically will not happen until EasyGameStation has wrapped up code work on their current project, Territoire. That's in a fairly critical stage at the moment, and we really don't want to distract them with "luxuries" like achievements.

There's definite interest in making it happen down the road, however.

Ding ding ding - and therein lies the problem. It'd need to be coded in, implemented, and tested. And right now EGS is beginning their final sprint on what is probably their biggest, most important, most impressive project ever. As much as I like seeing our fans get Cool Stuff, EGS is in charge of the code for Recettear and I'm not going to burden them with this while they're so hard at work.

Definitely not ruling out the possibility of achievements, at least, sometime next year, possibly as part of a wider promotion - but this year, it simply isn't happening. EGS needs as few distractions as possible.

Not a bad idea to stagger these features anyway. Sales slow down, you go "Hay we're adding achievements and to celebrate you can buy it for $15 this weekend only!!". Then roll in piles of money.

Ya know that the deeper the discount is,the higher the buy rate, right?

50% off and watch the money flow in!

Sounds like an unstable connection problem or somesuch between you and the server where the file is located. My japanophile friend has that problem frequently with some stuff he DLs of JP sites.

I actually think it's between me and my shoddy ISP, but oh well...
