Recettear with Gamepad
« on: September 01, 2010, 11:59:27 AM »
So I was wondering how many of you used a gamepad to play the demo or planned to use one for the release.

For those of you who use gamepads what kind of gamepad did you use?

I'm fine with keyboard, but I do have a standard PS2 controller hooked up to my computer. I don't really feel the need to use it for this game.

I don't want to shell out for an arcade stick, and I haven't liked any pad I've used since I hawked my SNES.  (and controllers with grip horns are terrible for me, and thumb sticks make me cry)  So keyboard for me.

I miss the old analog/serial joysticks from the amiga era.  (Oh man, time bandits on my atari st)

I use one of my USB Saturn controllers.  It's one button short of being able to map everything, but if you've got every skill but one mapped, you can just keep the normal skill-use button set to that skill anyway :P

So... it works quite well!

I use my 360 controller. Boring perhaps, but it works remarkably well.

Ditto. It's actually a pretty comfortable controller, and the little USB wireless adapter is more or less free with the purchase of a controller if you can find the bundle.

I use a wired 360 controller. Although, I'm tempted to use my beatmania USKOC. Just to try it.

I really should go get a gamepad one of these days.

Problem is I'm also planning to buy a PS3 (next year), but I get the feeling a XBox 360 controller would work better for my PC. Hm.

Well one advantage of the 360 controller for PC gamers even if you don't own a 360 is that it works for most DirectX PC games.

If you play PC Games for Windows ports of 360/multi platform console games like Assassins Creed, Prototype, etc. the controller is pre-configured to work w/o key-mapping. In fact for some GFWL games sometimes it is the only one that works (properly).

I have seen wired 360 controllers for as cheap as $26 on Amazon at times. Not that much more expensive than a Logitech controller.

I know, I've been encountering lots of games with weird control schemes that make perfect sense on a gamepad, but are really annoying with a keyboard/mouse. (Tom Clancy's HAWX and Devil May Cry 4 come to mind.)

Also, I cannot order that $26 controller from Amazon, because it only ships to the US. And the most common option stocked in shops here are wireless, which are more expensive.

Think I posted this here before. I use this:

Works great for simple old-school type games like this.

And it only costs $10

Not only that but the wireless ones need a special USB reciever. How about used game shops? With the new Xbox Slims there have been a flood of people trading in their Arcades (harddrive-less w/ wired controllers) and upgrading to new Xboxes.

Used wired controllers should be cheap since only PC gamers and frugal people who hate using batteries want em.

Your controllers are all for children. This is what real men use to play Recettear.
