Sadly, since valve almost always NDA's the sales data,we'll very prolly never know...
But to put it a slightly bit more into perspective, the top sellers list is actually not set by the number of sales, but by profit made.

Pretty much what I said regarding this on another post. This NDA will pretty much make your question unanswerable.

Unless you can settle with "A LOT!" for an answer.

A lot, considering it's above Civ V, MW2 and BF:BC2

I'd have to say "ALOT!" too!

Bet Steam's regretting not accepting the offer the first time!

Bet Impulse is regretting it more for not making a pre-order page 3 weeks ago when they were the first to support this game.

I'm wondering about that too. I can only speculate that Stardock is swamped with so many other things that they only got around to it now.

Or it could be something completely different. I don't know.

I was always going to get it on either Impulse or Steam (nothing against GamersGate, but it would require me to make yet another account), and Steam just happened to have the pre-purchase option up first.

Oh Stardock has been swamped. Their major release Elemental:Magic of War's street date was broken they hit the panic button.

Multiplayer was disabled and no less than 5 patches were released within 72 hours of its initial release.

They are still working out a myriad of issues that were brought up with their game's release =/

Understandable delay yet somewhat disappointing. Wanted to buy it off of Impulse cause their "Offline Mode" works better. None of that silly connect to internet and restart in offline mode buisness.

Really? Hm. I know that on Garry's blog (creator of Garry's Mod) he posted all sorts of sales statistics. They were something ridiculous too, several hundred thousand. Of course, the NDA could be pretty recent.

I admit I'm also curious, although my main interest can be distilled down to another question:

Is Carpe Fulgur going to continue existing as an entity?

While actual numbers would satisfy my curiosity, I suppose I'd be happy with answers like "yes", "no", "maybe", "probably not", or "too early to tell".

Too early to tell.

Also, we can't reveal anything now but I suspect we can drop some numbers at the end of the month.

If the numbers for "top seller" on Steam are by dollars and not by numbers of copies sold,  does anyone else find it kind of surreal that Recettear is not only consistently outselling Civ V, but is doing so at a 2.5 to 1 ratio?

Like I said, almost always.I guess garry's mod is the exception that proves the rule. :P
Although I suspect it was pretty much valve allowing them to post sales data for that particular sale. They were interesting stats in my opinion, since it shows how profitable sales can be.

Not to nitpick, since it's probably what you meant, but it's by profit,so in euros,it's pretty much outselling Civ V by 3.7.

My huge collection of 2€ sale price games pretty much agrees with that.

I was rather floored, by the by, when I saw a great big ad for Recettear on the main Steam page, sandwiched between Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The little game that went a LONG way!
