Sandy Bridge Preview

(1/1)

jdietz:
Anandtech has their Sandy Bridge preview up.  Part 2 of the preview.

I saw Andrew Dice talking about Sandy Bridge in another thread (with respect to "would be good for running Recettear").

Looks good to me.
What's good about it?
~28% performance advantage (average) over Westmere
Actually good integrated GPU (certain models).  It will give performance similar to a $50-$75 video card.  Models without GPUs are designed for operation with dedicated graphics.

The bad:
Needs a new motherboard.  Not compatible with any existing board.

My current PC is Conroe-based, so Sandy Bridge represents a >100% performance increase in most areas, including all important single-threaded workloads.  I don't have a laptop now.  Laptops with video boards still aren't that great in the graphics department and have a short battery life.  I was thinking of getting a Sandy Bridge based system for my first laptop due to the acceptable integrated graphics performance.
