Character AI is actually very smart...and probably outsmarted you. Check your magic settings, because your allies will refuse to use certain skills on certain settings so see if you limited yourself there. Later on, the allies AI is really useful, especially when Stella constantly buffs Arche and Sana debuffs bosses on full magic setting instead of just spamming attack pointlessly.

Also, you can "force" Sana to use the spells you want by shuffling spellbooks. It's really simple.

I do fairly well with Arche. It's the enemies on slopes that give me the trouble. A slime on a down slope is particularly bad, since it can tentacle diagonally at you and aside from down stab your other attacks don't really hit.
