General Discussion / Re: So... do we have any idea what project #4 is?
« on: April 02, 2013, 05:28:24 PM »
One year later since page 1 and now this topic is at page 43.

Is there any hint about what is project 4?

Is it an anime-style game like recettear, chantelise or fortune summoners?

The whole "if carpe fulgur reveals the name, the developers cancels the deal because it may hurt the game reputation" hypothesis doesn't make any sense.

As far as i know, thanks to recettear carpe fulgur has a very good reputation making it a successful game.

Reviews everywhere say how good the game is and how good the localization was.

Almost one month later, no news about project 4, not even the name.

I wonder what kind of deal did carpe fulgur with the developer.

Nyu-media already released a "second batch title preview", which is basically the new titles they will localize and an estimate release for them. There was no "its a complete secret deal so we can't say anything".

If carpe fulgur can't say even the title of the game, it must have been a very strange, uncommon deal with the developer.

Honestly, not living up to people's expectations should not be a concern at all. If you get all hyped about something for which there is exactly zero information (other than its existence), you deserve to be let down IMO.

I think say "zero information" is not exactly true.

This topic (and some others in this forum) seem to give many "clues" about this game, one of them being that this is a "big project" if i read rigth.

Considering recettear was extremely popular and even reaching the top in steam at some point, when "big project" is said is normal to expect something of similar success or even bigger.

Project 4 is a mystery.

And that is not good.

I mean, carpe fulgur has been releasing doujin games. And all seem to hint that project 4 is not a "simple" doujin but instead, a full "commercial" game.

All this situation reminds me of the nyu-media problems:

1. Nyu-media (another group of translators) had a partnernship with capcom.
2. Because of this, nyu-media couldn't freely give information about the problems in release.
3. Everyone blamed nyu-media for the lack of information and how the users wanting information were ignored.

At the end the only thing that happens is that the reputation of the translator groups is damaged while the big partner companies aren't affected because they are...big companies.

So far, project 4 is so secret no one knows what to expect which will lead to disappointment from a certain group when project 4 don't meet their expectations (for example, people expecting shump/visual novel would be disappointed after wait a lot if it was a fighting game).

I wonder if project 4 is really a doujin or a full "corporation/comercial" game (GTA/skyrim/megaman/cod/halo).

No offense but it's painfully obvious you're still early on in the game.

The game has 11 days, im in the day 5.

1) Battles flow much more smoothly once you've got a few more moves to chain together for combos.

Thats not what i meant.

What i meant is that i have to press a key 3-4 times before archer reacts while the enemy has "fast movement".

Fortune summoners is a fun interesting game, but it has many flaws...flaws that make the game annoying.

I like many things about the game but it has many "problems" too.

So far i have reached the wind temple part.

  • Characters AI is not smart: This is specially annoying with sana, that only uses shield and runs around the map instead of use her ice magic.
  • Low "control response": While enemies have fast attacks, play with keyboard make character movements to "ignore commands" so i ahve to press rigth 2-3 times before archer stops attacking and turns to the rigth.
  • Enemy AI is smart....VERY smart: Those green lizard mages are a great example, they can use the same ice spells that sana, but unlike sana, they use them efficiently. They heal their allies and constantly use their ice skills. Can't the player characters have this smart AI?
  • Lack of useful items in shops: no resurrect item available in store in the first days, im guessing the player has to go get the item and put give them to the store, so the store will have it available.
  • Can't escape dungeons unless spend 10% of money: The wind temple entrace is flooded with water so if you enter with sana and then, while exploring the dungeons, sana is defeated by enemies (something very common for a character with low HP) then you are trapped. You can't go forward because sana ability is needed and you can't go back because...sana ability is needed to escape. Which means that need to spend 10% of money for escape.
  • Expensive items: basically any armor that may make exploring a little easier cost 500 coins+.

Im not going to say "this game has only flaws" because that would be a lie. I will mention some of the many good things this game has too.

  • The game is fun.
  • The plot is very anime-style. While playing its easy to think "i know what to do because this is what happens in animes".
  • The translations are very good.
  • Hilarious/adorable main character conversations.

If the game follows "anime-style plots" i hope it doesn't end with arche getting her elemental stone. Because that would be annoying: "spend all the game looking for the elemental stone so archer can use magic and the game ends just when you get it, meaning that archer won't use magic."

And now fortune summoners is the first place and skyrim is in second place in steam.

Gamersgate is very late releasing it...oh well, it doesn't matter.

Whoa, fortune summoners is in the ten most sold in steam.

But of course, this doesn't reflect the real sales because some people hate the whole "steam-client for running games" and are waiting for gamersgate.

Only available in steam, no gamersgate.

Its a pity, recettear/chantelise art is awesome.

The patch notes for 1.108 say:

Quote
- Adventurers should now properly equip any upgrades sold to them.

However this doesn't seem to work.

I sell "romantic cape" to charme:

But after seeing her status, she doesn't equip it:

However, if i go to a dungeon with a "romantic cape", charme will auto equip it.
