General Discussion / Re: So... do we have any idea what project #4 is?
« on: February 09, 2013, 03:37:56 AM »
I'm not sure I agree.  I'd much rather be told "we're being hobbled by a non-disclosure agreement, but we're working on a project and we expect some results in a month or so" than be given complete radio silence.

That would be really fucking annoying to hear every single month though.

On the topic of CF's Project 4, I think it might actually be close to completion, considering how the announcements of revelation time are getting shorter.  If the project just fell into development hell, you wouldn't get further estimates, especially on short timeframes like a week or two.

Imagine that SpaceDrake himself was thinking the same at about this time last year.
Yeah...

Atm I've have a massive urge to play a Japanese Dungeon Crawler since the only true none western one I've played would be Shining in the Darkness

So

Etrian Odyssey 1-3
Dark Spire and any of the good ones like the Japanese Wizardry series.

BTW how good are the doujin examples of the genre? Since they are Japanese heavy it's not something I've taken an interest in. ! Oh I know of Plaintif Disprosif's Meikyuu Wakusei desParaiso from 3-4 years ago, that looks quite good at face value.

Try Labyrinth of Touhou. It's available english-patched.

General Discussion / Re: PSP porting?

If they ran this on their smartphones, it means that they've used remote desktop to do this.
You can do it via Playstation Mobile on PS Vita, but I don't think that PSP can do the same, sadly. (unless you can do it via homebrew and Custom Firmware, I'm not into this scene so I can't tell)

I'm betting Trails in the Sky as well.

But now that you mention it, dkellis, Prof. Layton vs. Phoenix Wright sounds like a big enough deal that fans would go freakin' nuts over it, necessitating an NDA.

Why would Capcom bother to outsource it anyway? They're big enough to localize this by themselves.
Unless they think they can get "cheap" labor force in form of indie localization teams.

This thread will eventually lead to a cryptic math-puzzle that will be added in-localization to a future project.
I can feel it.

And Berry's optimistic about Xseed's future. "I would say we're in the best position we've been in in years," he said. They've got big plans for next year, too: Berry said they're planning to announce most of their 2013 lineup in mid-January, and it includes "a pretty big announcement" for a game that isn't even out in Japan yet.

female gamers

There are no girls on the Internet, hence the assumption.

On a more serious note though, it seems that games with cute female protagonists are more popular with men, despite being targetted at women...I guess, I have nothing to prove it.
...or, really, I don't know. Pretty Cure is a magical girl show meant for little girls, and yet grown up dudes watch it as well.

What's My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic target audience again?

It seems that everything target audience related got absurdly mixed up recently.

EDIT: Why I get such luck to score 1st post on the page so often here? Geez, forums.

It would have to be really bloody brilliant to have any chance to surpass the original.
I can't even think of anything that would possibly make "Recettear 2" better. The only obvious thing that original is missing are widescreen support and HD resolution.

"Recettear 2" will be most likely EGS' next project after Territoire (they would be stupid to not milk this) and most likely won't release before 2014.
Assuming near instant release in english, that would be ~4 years in between sequel and original (and, again, assuming that development will take about a year).
For an indie series of this popularity, thats an absurdly long time and expectations will be damn high.

Isn't there an FFVI re-release on the Playstation Network?
There is, but it's only worth to get from US marketplace.
Otherwise it runs at 5/6th of the speed.

SpaceDrake mentioned that EGS had a side-project because they were sick of making Territoire day after day.
I think it's for upcoming Comiket.

Hell, I'd play that.
And it looks like a title that requires nearly no effort to translate, too...

Don't mind me being a douchebag at stuff like this. That's how internet works, sadly.
Almost nobody bothers to read anything that's taking entire display to fit (but I should point out that it's much more bearable to browse through with smaller font).

Oh well, might as well add my history as well.
I live in Poland, and therefore access to original hardware was scarce all the time.
This Atari 2600 clone is what I had a long time ago. It was popular in my neighbourhood. bunch of built-in games, neither had title screen so I never knew how to identify which is which (fortunaly they were always placed in the same order in memory, so thanks skipping through them sequentially 100s of times, I could always recall which game appears when and play it).
Then, I had This SNES looking NES clone. That's when I became more serious about gaming.
Also, this was (I think) the first console that my parents played games on (my dad played Lunar Ball and first Bomberman).

Then on christmas 1998 I've got amiga 600. Some computer store nearby had cheap disks with games for it and I've collected a lot of them (sadly, all of them were cracked versions, absolutely nobody sold original copies).
Christmas 2000 - PS1. First game I played on it was bundled in Crash Bandicoot 2 (I didn't have memory card at the time, fuck it was so annoying in hindsight, but I've got used to it due to no-save-features in previous games). Again, local marketplace had some cheap games, fortunatly I've managed to get some more legit copies. One annoyance- many of said games sold here were German imports. So, as a result, I have one of more brilliant games on this console, Ape escape, and I've never played this in english, but in german. Still, good experience, despite never understanding (almost) anything that characters say. It was also the time where I've learned about JRPGs. Marketplace had a (again, non-legit) copy of Final Fantasy Chronicles, which is a release with FF IV on one disk, and Chrono Trigger on the other.
At the time, I had nearly no clue how to play them because I've got used to the fact, that games were relatively simple and straightforward at the time. Not to mention, my english wasn't as good as today and I didn't understand half the plot ("why did those flying ships just bombed this castle and scary music begun to play?", "wait a moment, why am I fighting this blond man and he doesn't fight back? WHY CAN'T I CONTROL IT?!"). Only recently I've started to relieve some of these games and then realized that they're bloody great .
After PS1, there was PS2 for me, in 2005. Same deal with games again, but at least then I actually had some money on my own to afford legit games for once (sadly, even today, I stick to used market).
Then, DS, first console that I've bought with my own money and not somebody elses (parents' *cough*). Bought some games over time (including Pokemon Diamond and Tetris DS). And then my friend made me realize that R4 exists. Fuck.
Then, Xbox 360. Finally a console on which I didn't pirate anything (but I rarely bought new games either. Seriously, the only new games I've ever bought for this thing were Star Ocean 4 and Burnout Paradise: Ultimate box).
Only recently I've bought PS3. So far I only bought one not-used game (Trinity Universe), got 2 digitally (Grandia and Everybody's golf: world tour) and downloaded a dozen thanks to PS+.

At least today I'm trying to spend money for games that I pirated years ago, just to pay back what developers deserve....well, somewhat. Apparently buying a used copy of Star Ocean: the Second Story doesn't exactly help Tri-ace to make ends meet.
And yes, once Steam started to accept PaySafeCard, I jumped into Steam wagon as well. Finally someone that doesn't try to sell me a game for 60$ 3 years after game's release.

EDIT: Oh yes, I completly forgot about emulation.
Someone in grade school introduced me to ePSXe (I was in fifth grade, so at the time, version 1.5.2 was the most recent), I've got it up and running and ever since then, I've used this emulator's default control scheme for other games as well if I played them on keyboard (Z = X, X = O, S = [], D = triangle, etc).
Then sometime later, my friend introduced me to VBA, VisualBoyAdvance, a GBA emulator (it was at version 0.9 at the time). I've played pokemon crystal on it, and caught nearly every pokemon (other than this elusive Celebi...and some of legendary dogs and other one-time pokemon because, due to getting used to JRPG systems, and due to me being an idiot, I've destroyed them, instead of catching them). If it wasn't for VBA, I'd probably never have bought Pokemon Diamond, or Megaman Battle Network 5 DS.
