I wouldn't expect any sensible update in near future.
We're into pre-E3. There's already lots of stuff planned for May, including "GT6" reveal on May 15th, "Xbox 3" reveal on may 21st, refresh of Kepler GPUs later this month and reveal of Haswell CPUs in early June (with leaks happening as we speak).

And when E3 will happen, potential Project 4 announcement would be pretty much overwhelmed by everything else and would go unnoticed.

This is probably third fucking time we're through this kind of situation.

73.49$ for just two episodes? That's just madness.
At least a bit older stuff on Amazon seems to be more reasonably priced, for example this or this

The point is, for recent stuff it's just better to buy a video game (prefferably from related anime franchise) than buy anime. A game will give 50-100x more entertainment time for the same money AND it's interactive.

While I do support JRPG coming to PCs, they better not be bloody butchered ports.
We need more JRPGs made with PCs in mind (at least partially). Dark Souls II is a good start.

They say it's based off 360 version..so there might be GFWL.
Note that I don't personally mind it, but from what I can see, many people have this "GFWL = no buy" policy due to issues with it (such as vanishing save files)...so it might cause some backlash.

What we really need on PC is a Disgaea game.
Prefferably Disgaea D2 with:
   * Full HD visuals (either sprites remastered for HD, or just extend field of view, no jaggies or pixelization plox)
   * GOTY version (all DLC included)
   * Extensive mod support (custom sprites, animations, maps, attacks (but with certain options limited so it wouldn't ruin the balance)
   * Exclusive content and DLC
   * Bigger numbers
   * TF2 hats (because why not?)

This would probably satisfy our needs for Japanese games on PC for a while...and it's still a wet dream anyway.

I'm trying to grasp sensibility of translating games such as Rune Factory into languages other than Japanese and English.

Considering that these kind of games are meant for niche market, chances are people even remotely interested in such games know english either way, no matter the nationality.

So what's the point? Is EU really butthurt about this?

I actually believe there are some people (University of Utrecht... IIRC, though don't quote me on that) that are looking into building small kinetic generators into pavements and the like, which will generate a small but steady stream of energy from people walking over the tiles. Probably not the most practical of ideas, but interesting nevertheless.

Why do that when we could use something like this? Unless it's for generating electricity for the city itself or something.

I also recall seeing an article about a new type of battery not too long ago that charges about 1000 times faster than the current ones, as well as lasting longer.

Will get lobbied by all those people in oil business, sadly. Like with every other tech like that we hear about from time to time.

If it makes porting between PC and consoles easier, wouldn't that basically mean that if PCs are more successful, they'll become more successful as games get ported from console to PC, and vice versa?  Sounds like this would be a win for the game design industry, and either a big win for the console industry if consoles are still dominant (causing PC to console movement of games) or a big lose if it's not (causing console -> PC movement of games).

Unlikely. Some good and niche stuff will have to remain on certain platforms (be it PC or console(s)) anyway, so, well, people would have a reason to buy the hardware.
If anything, porting (and multi-platform developing) should become cheaper and less time consuming than now. That should give every dev a breather.

Is it true that the Japanese doujin industry tends to produce console-style games, as opposed to the western indie game industry?

Also, what exactly are DirectX and OpenGL?  Are they software for rendering 3D images?  I've heard both terms many times over the years but never been sure what they are.

Those are APIs.
Long story short, they're a bunch of tools with many libraries, which developer can use to write a game in a high-level programming language (such as C++).
DirectX is proprietary, it belongs to Microsoft.
Not sure how exactly OpenGL is licensed, but it's cross-platform.

After all, we have been told that CF is unable or not allowed to work on any other project while Project Four is still extant. This state of affairs appears to be continuing for the indefinite future.

We have? Where? All i can remember is speculation about it, as why there is no word at all about project 5.

CF is too small to work on more than one thing at a time. I think that SpaceDrake nodded to that.

And I think Territoire's specifically intended to have a simultaneous international release by EasyGameStation.  And Project 4.5, if it happens, is likely to be the game that EGS made to remember the feeling of releasing a game.

Remember how bosses in Breath of Fire (maybe just BoF 1, i haven't played the others) had a second wind right as they were about to die?  I'm imagining Project 4 being a bit like that.  But with multiple second winds.

They made an in-between game? I never realised. What was it?

I think that at this point, revealing any other project will completly confuse the fanbase.
"So this is what they've been working on for so long? What the fuck? How is that even possible?"

So yeah, even if they were capable to work on something else in the meantime, they probably won't mention anything.
Though this would be a not bad scenario. Like, in case of Project 4 getting canned for one reason or another, they'd have another game nearly ready for release.
