Hey, when god gives you lemons, YOU FIND A NEW GOD

Mandatory disclaimers probably include:

-Carpe Fulgur does not endorse this config tool
-Downloading stuff from the internet that are also .exe's can be BadTM, and you're doing so at your own risk.

A Recette from the cosplay thread images that I shaded/toned a little bit. It really could use a full inking but I'm beat.

I wanted to make something with that picture but I couldn't find a suitable background for it >_>

That's troublesome  :-\

I'm out of ideas, my gut feeling is that there's some kind of issue with the RealTek cards but I can't pinpoint it.

Both Kenchan and Shroob are using Realtek onboard audio version 6.00.0001.xxxx

I'm using Realtek onboard audio with driver version 5.10.0000.5672 which works for me. I had issues before installing FFDShow but I've been able to beat the game multiple times without a hitch afterwards.

The most current driver version offered by Realtek is ->6.1.6001.33<-

I couldn't find a source for my driver version and I'm a bit worried that if I upgrade I'll walk into the same problem you guys are having, but since things aren't working as is for you guys anyway, either of you mind downloading those drivers and seeing if that helps?

Most problems are found among the System Information, Display Devices and Sound devices sections, so those should be enough.

If your startmenu doesn't show the run command thingy you could hit the windowskey + r to bring it up and then just type dxdiag to start it.

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale / Tips and Tricks Thread!
« on: September 04, 2010, 05:59:04 PM »
Just compiling some helpful goodies I've found browsing around here into a single thread. If you know any good tips or tricks please share as well!

Customers have a price in mind when they look for an item. If you get close to their expected price you'll score a NearPin exp bonus, meaning you get 15 exp instead of the base 10. If you hit it on the dot (not sure how exact you have to be) you will score the JustPin bonus of 30 exp instead of the base 10!

When you're selling stuff, if your customers don't have to haggle you will start building a combo. The combo exp award grows like so:

2->4->8->16->32->64->128 (Max)

This combo bonus is in ADDITION to your base exp amount, or any Pin bonus that applies. This means the most exp you can make in a single transaction as far as I know is 30 + 128, for a whopping 158!

Once you figure out good haggle-less prices you can score a ton of extra exp for your merchant levels. This is how I found out merchant level 10 is max in the (newest) demo!

*If you sell an item far below its value you will -not- get the combo bonus, and break your chain!

It's a good idea to store at least one or two of the cheapest item of every type. That way if someone asks for an item you don't typically like to stock you won't break your combo. Offering a very expensive item to a customer asking for an item might mean you'll run over his budget and won't be able to sell that item for its full value.

When fighting mobs in a dungeon, killing the same kind of monster consecutively starts a chain. A chain grows up to 11 and seems to cap out there. I haven't confirmed the bonuses for chaining, but judging by the speed I levelled from 1->2 when chaining blue slimes I think it's a pretty hefty exp bonus.

**WANTED** What does shop atmosphere affect?

That's all I got for now ^^

Did you update your soundcard drivers? Did you try disabling sound hardware acceleration in
Start->Run..->dxdiag?

I had some (I think) sound-related issues that were solved by getting FFDShow, there's a linky in my earlier post. I have Realtek onboard audio which seems like what you have as well, so it might be worth checking out.

The slick ground trap chest rules, you can flank those annoying bunnies and shrooms.

Suffering crashes at seemingly random intervals after entering the halls of trials. First crash occured approx. two days gametime after entering, 3 replay attempts crashed almost immediately after exiting the halls of trials, and one final attempt crashed during the trials themselves. The sound stuttered for approx 3-4 seconds before the crash message, so I tried disabling hardware accelerated sound, but no change. The game seems to run indefinitely prior to the halls of trials.

Edit: Leaving the game on in the background crashes it after about 10 minutes, without entering the halls of trials. Strangely, the (first) attempt where I skipped no dialogue got me the furthest without crashing.

Edit #2: I noticed the error report included a bit about ffdshow.ax. I downloaded and installed FFDShow, since I hadn't installed any version of it previously and thought it might help. I've now made it all the way to merchant level 3 and the Jade Way dungeon without crashing.

Edit #3: Just confirming I could complete a playthrough after updating FFDShow. :)
