General Discussion / Very impressed all around!
« on: September 19, 2010, 11:54:21 PM »
As the title states, you guys have impressed me. :)

First, a bit of a preface. I'm a struggling game designer (mainly VB6 and also some C++ and Java) that dreams of at least getting some fun games out there. So I know how hard it is to do this, even if it's not building a game from scratch. Also, I'm a once hardcore gamer that's starting to game less and less. A few years back, I could play whatever game caught my fancy for hours on end with no concept of how much time passed by, day after day. Now, I find myself barely able to play Fallout 3 for more than 20 min before getting bored. And I *love* that game.

Now that you know a bit about me, enough to see where my thoughts are coming from at least, let me lay on the praise. :D

First, you, as a company, have really impressed me. You took a leap of faith by taking a largely unknown game, in the US at least, and making it available to us English speakers. And you did it surprisingly well at that. The level of professionalism, both in the game and your forums themselves, has really struck a chord with me. You treat us, the buyers and followers and gamers and fans, as people. As human beings that know what we want. That alone is worth the $20 for the game in my mind. Your stance on DRM made my jaw hit the floor. Finally people that *get it*! The fact that you respect us enough to not include any cringe/shudder/bloody vomit inducing protection, knowing full well that you're open to piracy, is astounding. And I love you for it. You have gained my full and eternal respect for that.

Secondly, the game itself... It's amazing. I bought it today off Steam as an impulse buy. The art is cute, the game play looked unique, and the price was just right. I didn't really expect to play much of it, as I've stated, my gaming urges are declining as my disappointment with each new release rises, but I love supporting fellow Indie groups. Minecraft is another game that I spent money on for similar reasons. I jumped into the game figuring I'd play for an hour, max, before going off to do something else. Before I knew it, I was done with the game, beating it on my first play through with around 20pix to spare. I looked at the clock, expecting, at most, to find ten hours had passed, with my occasional breaks to do some work. When I wasn't playing, I was thinking about playing. The quality of the localization was amazing. The dialog was fun and light hearted. I literally had a sore face for about 20 minutes after playing, from grinning the whole damn time I played. You picked an amazing game and made it relevant and accessible to me. For that, you've earned my loyalty and praise.

To sum it up, for those of you that don't care to read a block of text, thank you. You're a great company with a surprisingly, no offense intended, very well done first release. If you stick by your current stance on DRM and respect towards your customers... And if you keep up the amazing work localizing these games in such a loving manner... You have a customer for life. :)
