Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale / Framerate dips?

I'm not sure if it's a 1.06 patch issue or a "Always had it, can't unsee it" sort of thing, but my frame rate seems to alternate between 60 and 45 FPS.  While I can set it to be at 30 max and be fine and dandy, what could possibly be causing the problem in the first place?

Also, I have no idea what kind of information I'm supposed to be providing for this sort of thing, so, uh...yeah.  Ask away, so I will know what will help you help me.  Or something.

Okay, the debt collection bell is ringing and I am terrified I will not be able to make this new, massive payment.  I'm curious what exactly happens when I lose, do I start a brand new game roguelike-style?  Do I go back to the start of the week?  Day 1?  What do I keep?
