General Discussion / Steam Summer Sale - 2012 Edition
« on: July 12, 2012, 11:32:24 AM »
So, citizens, the steam summer sale has started, so scramble the squadrons and stock up several-

Okay, I can't do this.

The Steam 2012 Summer Sale has started today, which means all Carpe Fulgur titles 50% off (Chantelise is $5, Recettear is $10, and Fortune Summoners is $10).

Additionally, there are several other great games, such as Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Portal 2, and my new favorite, Crusader Kings 2 ($10, with heavily discounted DLC and $2.50 for the expansion) going for 75% off.

Also, if you've been sitting on the fence, the Gundemonium Collection is $5 for all three games (Recollection, GundeadliGne, and Hitogato Happa) or $2 a game if you need to round out your collection.

Terraria is $2.50 as well.

Please note that Terraria, Portal,  Crusader Kings and Gundemonium are daily sales, and Deus Ex is a flash sale, ending two hours from this post.

Thank you, Carpe Fulgur.

Thank you for showing me the better sides of Indy gaming, the better sides of Japanese imports, and, hell, the better sides of actually giving a damn about your product.

Now, I'm not going to go into an "Us and Them" argument against "big business" (especially not with Skyrim sitting on my desk), but I will say that it's hard to find a company, even a small Indy team, as remarkable (Excellent?) as Carpe Fulgur. Though I really only jumped on the bandwagon shortly before Chantelise, I enjoyed the wait, the drama, and the excitement of the Fortune Summoners localization. Listening to the community, checking the front page, even scouring the Web for some old Carpe Fulgur podcast interviews in order to tide me over for today.

Though I did have a few minor issues with Recettear (so minor that I still sank sixteen hours into it... And I'm not done yet!), and Chantelise tore out my spine and beat me with it, I honestly cannot say that I've seen a doujin game as polished as Fortune Summoners, and as damned pretty.

And that's not just because of the game itself. The actual artwork (especially the cat) made me "meh" at first... And then I took a demo to the desktop.

And my gods, it was amazing. Not just the drop-dead stunning visuals, but also the characters, the setting, the everything. Some credit goes to LizSoft, and a good deal goes to those that made it possible for me to even read it in the first place.

Every sales figure represents someone who most likely never would have played the game if you hadn't worked on it. If you hadn't taken the time to make sure everything was right, that the finished product was too quality.

You had me sold at Recettear, but only in an "I liked their other game" capacity.

Now I know that a Carpe Fulgur game is a Top Quality Production, and that I can expect, if nothing else, an experience almost exactly like the original.

Congratulations, Carpe Fulgur. May your lightning forever be seized, and your shins forever intact.
