General Discussion / Re: So... do we have any idea what project #4 is?

Project 4 is Princess Maker 4 and 5
... you heard it folks :P

inb4 silly comments: i would actually like for someone to translate em
There's a translation in progress for PM5 that I've been keeping my eye on for a few months. Looks like it's nearing completion.

@Narmy: I'd be interested in your results. And does the game recognize your gamepad?
Yeah it recognizes it fine.

The crash seems to have gone away, but I have reinstalled Windows since the last time I tried it so maybe I changed something that was causing problems. Although I remember that my controller was loose last time and disconnected if I moved it the wrong way, and I don't have that problem anymore.

Maybe a faulty signal or an unknown pad causes problems somehow.

3
Out of curiosity: did you guys have more than one pad plugged in? Also, does the Hori stick require its own drivers?
I only have one pad plugged in, but my dual adapter adds both ports as a separate pad whether there's one connected or not. I'll do a little experimenting and see if unplugging it stops the crashing, if it'll help.

5
Hmm, maybe the gamepad was the issue then. I haven't tried it in a while, but when I was having those crashes I was using a Playstation controller hooked through a dual port adapter.

6
The only workaround I found is playing the game in a Windows XP virtual machine, but that became too much of a pain so I haven't completed the game yet.

I hope in the future I can actually play the game normally...

I remember riding a falling spike trap back up to the top to find that one. I can't remember if it was in the first cave or the wind shrine though.

General Discussion / Re: Localization Suggestion: Princess Maker

Forgive my ignorance, but what in Princess Maker have in it that is so controversial?
There are some suggestive endings, where your daughter can become stuff like a prostitute, bondage queen, concubine; and also an ending where you can marry your adopted daughter. Also there's some implied rape, and minor nudity (which most likely would have been edited out of the final version).

It seems like the issue with the game was more with finding a publisher/distributor, rather than any sort of license agreements with Gainax.
http://www.softegg.com/products/pm2/index.html

Online distribution would be a perfect solution for that problem, but according to that article somebody else already has the rights to the games. A shame, because it's a fun game and I'd like to play the rest of the series.

Did you have the music enabled? When yes then disable the music at the settings on the start and test the game. Maybe the game is then more stable.
I disabled the sound in the game settings, and I also disabled my sound card in the Windows settings, but the game crashed faster than ever before.

I'm wondering if the crashes might be related to sound cards..
Only way to confirm or debunk what i think is by all those with crashes, post if you have onboard sound or a dedicated sound card.

My reasoning for this is because, there was a game, which i cant remember the name of, that also had a similar crashing problem, and it was because of sound cards. only those with dedicated cards had the crashing problem. Might be completely unrelated, but, maybe worth looking at?
I have a dedicated sound card and I get the crashes.

I was having the transition crashes 24/7 that prevented me from even getting to the mountain caves till i decided to reinstall;
-my gpu drivers
-change the sotes.exe (located in steam-->steam apps-->common-->fortune summoners) file to be running in window xp sp3 compatibility mode, and as administrator.
Been smooth so far for the past 2 hours without crashing on transition from entrances. Give it a try and see if it works~
If you have an Nvidia graphics card, which version driver did you install? I want to play but I still haven't made it to the second save point without crashing.  :(

Not sure if this helps in the overall diagnosis but I was having extremely laggy transitions and stuttering framerate during game. For some reason the screen panned smooth while jumping but jerked a lot when walking/running. The area transitions dropped to a tiny framerate.
This was TOTALLY FIXED after changing VRAM to normal (was originally set to use all) and now the game works just fine in fullscreen mode.
The default for VRAM is "normal use", they tell you in the manual not to change it unless you have problems:
Quote
If you find the game runs slowly with default settings, set the graphics quality to "low" and VRAM usage to "all". (Using all available VRAM can cause slowdown in other cases, so if the game runs smoothly on default settings, don't change this option.)

If screen changes happen too quickly at default settings causing the screen to cut, set VRAM Usage to "Partial" or "Full."

Most users will find the best visual quality and highest framerate comes from "Visual Quality = High" and "VRAM Usage = Partial."

I've never encountered the menu lag problem, but I have the crashing problem.  I read you guys had a workaround for the menu lag by disabling your second monitor... I'm currently using three monitors with ATI Eyefinity.  I tried disabling all of mine but one yet I still encounter the crashing...

For any other people experiencing the door transition crashing, are you running multiple monitors?
I have a second monitor plugged in (well, a TV actually), but it's been disabled the whole time.

The game crashes for me either after a certain amount of time, or a certain number of area transitions, not entirely sure. The crash always happens during a transition though.

It's crashed:
While leaving houses in town.
While trying to enter the school.
While entering a door inside the school.

Dxdiag:

And the crash logs, not sure if it will help:
http://pastebin.com/E8Tq6PCu

The demo hasn't crashed for me at all, only the full game from Steam.

15
I have a crash too, I tested it a few times and it happens at the same point. In the beginning after exploring all the houses in town, the last house I leave causes a crash. It doesn't seem to matter which house it is, as long as it's the last unexplored house.

My specs:
Intel Core i5 2500k
Windows 7 64-bit
GTX 560Ti
8GB RAM
